ranged
Ranged
The unit can attack from a distance before it moves. When the enemy is very close, the unit fights in melee instead of shooting.
Unit traits
Traits tell the player what special behavior a unit has. Some work immediately, while others must first be researched at the University.

volley
When another allied stack of the same unit stands next to it, a ranged attack also hits unit stacks on hexes adjacent to the main target for half damage. Volley can hit friendly units in that area.
charge
The unit deals more damage after moving toward the target. The more hexes it crosses before attacking, the stronger the hit.
formation
The unit takes less damage when another allied stack of the same unit stands next to it. Different unit types do not support this formation.
preemptiveStrike
When this unit is attacked in melee and can reach the attacker, it strikes first. If that first hit defeats the attacker, the incoming attack is stopped.
heal
The unit can restore wounded or missing allied unit stacks in range. A healer cannot heal itself.
transport
Some units can carry one friendly unit stack into battle. The transported unit does not act until Eject is used. The Roman Siege Tower lets transported ranged units shoot from inside; the Trojan Horse hides its cargo and cannot be targeted while loaded.
university
Charge, Formation, Volley, and Preemptive Strike require University research. Ranged, Heal, and Transport are unit traits available immediately when a unit has them.
